Continuous Expansion Plans Develop Cordell Group's Capabilities

Expansion boost for Cordell Group...

The continuous expansion plans of Cordell Group Ltd in 2004 began with a positive start with the acquisition of the ongoing operations of established bespoke engineering solution provider, Balmer Lindley Environmental Engineering Services (BLEES), formally known as Service Welding. As of the 23rd February the ongoing operations of BLEES were transferred to Structures Teesside (Cordell) Ltd and have therefore come under direct control and stewardship of Cordell Group.

The acquisition adds over 80 years specialist experience in the design, manufacture and installation of chimneys, stacks, hoppers, silos, gantries, storage tanks and pressure vessels to Cordell's already extensive service range.

The business will operate from its base at Sunderland and will trade under the name of Service Welding Cordell. This acquisition supports Cordell's aim to grow in size and capability. The group has a current sales turnover of about £15,000,000 and employ approximately 270 people across seven locations within the North East.

Quality Management System

Cordell Group limited have recently achieved an extension to their BS EN IS09001:2000 accreditation to include their Research Engineering and Property Services Division. This division of Cordell Grroup is based on the Wilton International site, Teesside and offers specialised services to the chemical manufacturing industry located here and in other areas of the UK.

Typical work includes chemical plant relocations and commissioning as well as laboratory refurbishments.

Bowater Engineering joins the Cordell Group

Cordell's new Machining Business confirms that Cordell means Business!

Further to the earlier acquisition of Structures Teesside's operations in April, Cordell Group has continued with their commitment to make the most of acquisition opportunities in order to strengthen their position as the leading private engineering and construction business in the region!

The acquisition of "Bowater Engineering" the well known and respected machining and bespoke assembly specialists of Dukesway, Teesside Industrial Estate means continued employment security for the ten staff currently employed there and business continuing as usual, under the new name of Bowater Cordell Engineering.

David Rush, Managing Director of Cordell Group Limited commented, "Bowater's business is a good fit with Cordell's other multi-disciplined design, fabrication and construction activities". "Furthermore we believe that the management skills and experience that we will bring to Bowater's operations will in due course lead to a significant expansion of it's current business and employment levels".

Now with a total of 6,600 square metres of manufacturing capacity and the ability to add machining to its considerable list of capabilities, Cordell is clearly showing signs of meaning business in the regional Engineering and Construction market.

Cordell Group receives another site safety award

Along with other contractors, Cordell Group were proud to receive a certificate from Semb Corp Limited for the achievement of 2,000,000 man-hours without a reportable injury on their Wilton International site.

Third deal shows Cordell's expansion commitment

Last Friday Cordell Group completed the acquisition of Hartlepool Fabrications site construction operations. Further to the earlier acquisition of Structures Teesside's operations in April and of Bowater Engineering's operations in August, Cordell Group has continued with their commitment to make the most of acquisition opportunities in order to strengthen their position as the leading private engineering and construction business in the region.

The acquisition of the site construction arm of Hartlepool Fabrications from the company's appointed administrators (Oxfordshire based HMT Corporate Recovery) secures the ongoing employment of 25 site based personnel. This is the second time that Hartlepool Fabrications Limited - the company notable for building the Angel of the North - has gone into administration over the last eighteen months. David Rush, Managing Director of Cordell Group Limited commented, "having failed in our attempt to acquire Hartlepool Fabrications last year when it first went into administration, we are extremely pleased to have been successful in acquiring their site construction activities second time around".

David Rush went on to say that "Hartlepool Fabrications site operations are an extremely good fit with Cordell's other multi-disciplined design, fabrication and construction activities". "Furthermore we believe that the management skills and experience that we will bring to these operations will in due course lead to a significant expansion of our current business, particularly in the field of providing term contract maintenance and project services".

In relation to the take over itself, Alan Lloyd, the operations manager who transferred to Cordell as part of the deal said "the ex-Hartlepool Fabrications employees that have transferred to Cordell are very pleased with the situation and are now looking forward enthusiastically to their future with Cordell".

Structures Teesside (Cordell) Limited- part of the Cordell group of companies - undertook the acquisition and completion of the deal now takes the groups consolidated employment level to just over 260 people, based in five locations on Teesside. As a result of this deal the overall picture is that Cordell clearly intends to mean business in the regional Engineering Design and Construction market.

Cordell is also hopeful that in the coming year it will continue to expand its business activities. David Rush commenting that "in today's shrinking markets, bold and innovative steps are needed to keep pace with demands for comprehensive and cost effective quality services. The prevailing tough economic climate is driving consolidation in the marketplace and is forcing SME businesses to think hard about their futures. We anticipate further shrinkage of the market and are strategically placing ourselves to make the most of other acquisition opportunities yet to emerge, in order to strengthen our position as the leading private engineering Design and Construction Company in the region."
